sa·laam /səˈläm/
A common greeting used internationally. Sometimes it can get you better service, sometimes not so much.
It is hard for anyone really to summarize who they are. Growing up with dreams of becoming a superhero, our goals often meet worldly realities. I started university with hopes of maybe pursuing medicine; after volunteering in the medical industrial complex, I was hesitant. I had always been fond of education, specifically the teaching aspect of it. Slowly gravitating towards the field, I am happy to call myself a teacher. Now why does a Secondary Science Teacher need a website?

Coming to Canada at the age of 9, from an Uyghur-Afghan background, led to a life full of stories. From attending foodbanks as a recent migrant, to being one of the directors at a local foodbank, life has been a journey. In 2017, when many Uyghurs like myself started losing contact with their families abroad, I had to change my life trajectory around.
Because of my background, I spend most of my time outside work in non-profit activities. Flying out to different cities to educate people on the Uyghur Plight and hosting fundraisers raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. I found that many of the people working in this field are regular Joes like me. We don’t often see the stories that go on behind the scenes of humanitarian work. That’s what this is all about.
